“Romero Award” for Casinos Austria

John Romero revolutionized the casino business with his marketing initiatives in the 1960s and 1970s. His unconventional approach to advertising earned him three Echo Awards from the Direct Marketing Association in New York and the status of Romero Award's namesake. 2017 the award went to the "Your Scan to Happiness" campaign of Casinos Austria.

Preisgekrönte Kampagne

The promotional idea was convincing due to its simple yet compelling logic. Over 200,000 casino guests received a postcard from Casinos Austria inviting them to participate in the Austria-wide "Your Scan for Happiness" sweepstakes.

People could win three main prizes, consolation prizes, and non-winning cards. The decisive factor? Graphic features on the cards that were invisible to the naked eye. Guests could use a "lucky scanner" app developed by Netural to check whether their card had won a prize. The app was available at each of the 12 Casinos Austria locations. If you were lucky, you could get up to €5,000 in casino chips.
