Our new eHealth projects

Digital tools are increasingly taking on functions in (health-) care. At Netural, we are responding to this trend with increased involvement in research projects related to digital care projects.

The field of eHealth is one of the most dynamic at the moment. At the same time, developing smart eHealth solutions is quite rewarding because they can bring about a massive improvement for those affected.

That there is a need for smart, interdisciplinary eHealth solutions is best recognized by those who work in the field. That's why this fall, two new projects have been added to our already impressive list of eHealth research projects:

  • The "WheelSim VR" simulator teaches people with walking disabilities how to maneuver around in an electric wheelchair using 3D glasses. This allows them to practice situations safely and also enables them to demonstrate their experience when applying for insurance benefits.

  • The "Sharing Stories, Sharing Life" program offers elderly people a new opportunity, both online and offline, to reflect on experiences, share feelings, and develop social skills to prevent social exclusion – a widespread phenomenon in many European countries.

A man in a wheelchair wears VR glasses and interacts with virtual content.

The realization of both solutions required the involvement of diverse stakeholders; from public institutions in Austria, the UK and the Netherlands to local social organizations, like LIFEtool or the "Evangelisches Diakoniewerk Gallneukirchen", and technology partners, such as the Austrian Institute of Technology. On top, the FFG was involved as they funded the WheelSim VR project, while the Austrian Road Safety Board was brought on board to provide input on proper road behavior of wheelchair users.
