"Freedom and Security" was the overall theme of the European Forum Alpbach 2019, which raised highly relevant health-related and sociopolitical questions – a perfect opportunity for the presentation of the innovative product "VRhealthy".
VRhealthy is a novel solution that encourages patients to engage in physical exercises. It was successfully tested at the Ordensklinikum Linz and combines experiences and insights from numerous research projects.
Participants of the renowned Alpbach Forum had the opportunity to try out VRhealthy firsthand in the AAL Austria showroom of the Philips Innovation Lab. They were guided by Netural's digital health experts and Maria Röthlin, coordinator of oncology care management at the Elisabethinen Hospital in Linz.
The intelligent combination of ergometer and VR set enables the elderly, people with limited mobility and/or demented patients to train in a virtual space. The exerciser cycles through terrain simulated via VR glasses while being provided with information about their performance. VRhealthy thus offers an experience that is much closer to "real" cycling than previous solutions that relied on screens while also being much safer than "real" cycling.

The guests at the Alpbach Forum were surprised by how captivating this type of therapy support can be and by how easy it is to use. The overall response was very positive and people perceived the solution to be highly motivating – a feedback very similar to that of the Ordensklinikum Linz. Further projects are planned, from hospitals, rehabilitation and therapy centers, to retirement and nursing homes, medical centers, and assisted living facilities.
