KI Challenging for the Upper Austrian Chamber of Commerce (WKOÖ)

back to overview

The Upper Austrian Chamber of Commerce (WKOÖ) is far more than a service provider – it's a professional and emotional anchor for the region’s businesses. With digitalization and artificial intelligence rapidly shaping the world, the WKOÖ is taking proactive steps. Together with Netural, the organization has uncovered valuable AI opportunities and took first steps toward bringing them to life.

The Task

As a modern service and information hub, the WKOÖ helps its members tackle a broad range of business challenges. To future-proof its operations in terms of process efficiency and information management, the Chamber conducted a strategic AI potential analysis in partnership with Netural. The AI potential analysis, which is part of the holistic AI Challenging Program of Netural, aims to identify where artificial intelligence can bring tangible value to workflows.

Challenges

The first phase of the AI Challenging Program focused on mapping out key challenges across the WKOÖ’s departments and assessing how AI could help solve them. The ultimate goal was to generate concrete, high-impact project ideas with realistic chances of success — all while keeping organizational constraints in mind.

A major challenge: ensuring broad participation across departments and getting all relevant stakeholders involved. The goal was to create space for diverse viewpoints, understand varying needs, and collectively develop a clear and prioritized roadmap. The structured approach offered by the AI Challenging Framework turned out to be the perfect setup for this task.

"The holistic approach and in-depth analysis helped us and our employees develop an actionable AI roadmap for ongoing and future projects, which we can now bring to life step by step."

Christina Baschinger, Team Lead Digital Process Management, WKOÖ

Solution

Thanks to the structured process, the WKOÖ was able to develop a clear strategic roadmap for future AI initiatives and thus to establish a solid decision-making basis for next steps. In total, 66 AI potentials were identified in the categories knowledge management, data and text analysis, process automation, and content creation.

Employee involvement was ensured through internal surveys and one workshop per department. This approach was important for several reasons:

  • To incorporate as many perspectives and experiences as possible
  • To increase acceptance of future solutions and reduce resistance
  • To create transparency and foster the transfer of AI knowledge

The evaluation and prioritization of AI potentials was conducted based on benefits and feasibility using a custom-developed matrix. The most valuable use cases were immediately concretized and are now entering the development phase for which the WKOÖ is partnering with Netural once again.

Conclusion

Netural’s AI Challenging Program clearly demonstrates how companies can identify areas where AI solutions generate the greatest value and how to translate these 'potentials' into viable project proposals. The successful identification of 66 AI potentials and vision topics, and the resulting proof-of-concept proposals form a strong foundation for a continued collaboration between Netural and the WKOÖ.
